The Nutrition and Teas

The first week in and overall, it is going really well! I wanted to share with you a bit about the nutrition plan.  After the 3 day apple diet, I moved on to a high alkaline diet.  That means 70-80% of my foods will be alkaline forming ( fruits and veggies) and 20-30% will be acid forming (whole grains, meat, dairy).   There are lots of little rules and I know it will take some time to learn.

For instance, no red or processed meats but I can have chicken, turkey, lamb (the only red meat option but I don’t think I will be going this route) and fish.

I can have apples, bananas, and melon but only eaten as a separate snack, not with a meal.

I can have 2-4 eggs per week.

I must avoid Nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, white potatoes, tobacco, and paprika) and also since I have psoriatic arthritis, I must also avoid citrus and strawberries.

I must avoid processed foods such as white bread, white rice, etc.

This week I started taking teas 5 days a week that will help heal the walls of the intestines (slippery elm powder) and help flush out the liver and kidneys (American Yellow Saffron Tea).  I start my day with 1/2 teaspoon of slippery elm powder mixed with warm water and wait 30 minutes before I have my breakfast.  I end my day on an empty stomach with 1/2 teaspoon of American Yellow Saffron Tea steeped in hot water.

I take 3 tablespoons of Lecithin- 1 tbsp at each meal- 5 days per week.  The benefits of taking lecithin are that it is an alkaline, aids in digestion, and has a helpful effect on bowel evacuation.  It is really important to be regular in that department to avoid buildup of toxins.  supplements
